REVIEW: The Body Shop's Camomile Cleansing Butter

The Body Shop founded in 1979 by Dame Anita Roddick has always been a beauty store I keep going back to. Their ethically-sourced ingredients and ability to create some of the best naturally-inspired beauty products helps them stand out from the rest. Forty-one years later they are still relevant and still producing quality products. What attracts me the most to the brand is that they are cruelty free, and concerned with the environment and sustainability, brands who don't incorporate saving practices into their business in this day and age are simply careless.

Last year they released their Camomile range of makeup removing products. Within this range you can choose from cleansing oils, to micellar cleansing water to gentle eye makeup removers.

The one product that caught me eye was the Sumptuous Cleansing butter, which in essence is also a makeup remover. I heard a lot of hype around this product at first, as well as read and watched many reviews, but me being the skeptic that I am and beauty enthusiast myself, I decided that I needed to try it out and see what it was all about.

Fast forward a couple of months of trying it, as well as swopping it out for other makeup removers and coming back to it, I can confidently say that there isn't a product as good as this one on the market currently that is also this affordable. The Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm is very similar and performs relatively well, but is also more expensive.

The Product

Fragrance - while it's not overly scented, it is scented. It's a camomile product, so expectedly one expects to smell camomile. The scent is not overpowering, as they have used calming camomile extract from Norfolk, England to create a natural and soothing scent that is suitable for sensitive skin. Camomile in its organic form is a natural anti-oxidant, good for detoxifying as well as relaxation and sleep.

Texture - the best way I can describe the texture of this product is to compare it to solid coconut, such as the coconut oil you would cook with. When left at room temperature, is remains soft and easily usable. It obviously melts with heat, so on application to the face it turns into an oil.

Performance - Upon using this product for quite some time, I have used when I have had minimum and intense makeup on, and every time this product removed 90% of the makeup in under one minute. As soon as its applied to the skin it melts and as it does this it lifts the product right off. What's is great is that it is oil based and therefore works perfectly on waterproof makeup.

Application - Basically, I take about a fingernail amount of product, rub it between my fingers and start gently massaging it onto my face. I follow this step with up with a damp muzzling cloth to wipe off the excess product and then cleansing, toning and moisturising. I did a quick HOW TO application video on my Facebook page - to watch the video click here.

***** Rating *****

In this tub you get 90ml / 27 oz / 76g of product for R230,00. This product has been an essential step in my night time skincare routine for the past couple of months and I still have not hit pan yet. It is easy on the skin, it does not irritate, cause abrasions on the skin, I have not experienced any dryness or rashes from using this product, which make sit suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin.

For the price point and the performance of this product I would certainly recommend you trying it out. It gets a solid 4.5 / 5 stars from me.
